Pellote of Leonora de Castille
This well preserved garment, dated to the 1st half of the 13th century, is presently located in the monastery Las Huelgas. This is one of the oldest extant sideless gowns, which later (14th century) will become surcotte to rule European fashion. The skirt is very wide and so long on the sides, it was probably falling to the floor. However, in front and back it only extended to the ankles, as part of the fabric was taken up to hang the garment on shoulders. This design made the perlotte more comfortable for walking.
